We explain complex things using poorly drawn monkeys.

We are brand new. We have no office. But we have a clear direction, and we are hiring.

about us

I'm Shay. I started this studio with a friend in 2025. Our goal is simple: explain confusing concepts simply.

So we experimented with a few styles:

artists: Jason Giraldo, Richard Clark, & Bode

created a short:

animator: kevin turpin

and even produced a full video (here's a snippet):

animated by: Lucas, Rhonee, & Sergio

But shortly after, I had surgery and everything stopped. I'm recovered now, we're back, and we're going all in focusing on Primate animation style.

Right now the studio is just three of us:

We have no office, no managers, and no health insurance yet. But what we do have is a clear direction and a work style most studios don’t.

our workstyle

We’re staying small on purpose.

Big teams sacrifice quality and underpay people. I've seen it happen over and over. Besides, our animation style is dumb simple so we don’t need many people anyway.

We are laid back. Work whenever, wherever. All I ask is that you finish your part before the deadlines.

And as our channel grows, your pay grows. It makes no sense why I should keep our team's pay the same when the studio is making more.

In short: animate well and you’ll be paid well. It’s really that simple.

the 10 commandments

  1. we don’t do interviews
  2. we don’t do meetings
  3. work whenever you want
  4. we make decisions in Discord
  5. degrees and portfolios are cute
  6. if it’s not simple, it’s wrong
  7. good work = more pay
  8. comedy is the highest resolution
  9. if you need micromanaging, go work at Dairy Queen
  10. are you seriously reading this?

faq

what kind of animation style do you do?
Primate Economics style is our exact style.
who are you making videos for?
YouTube viewers who want to learn something without sitting through a TED Talk.
what’s your hiring process like?
We don’t do interviews, review your portfolio, none of that. You do a short test animation, we watch it, and if it's what we're looking for we'll reach out. That's it.
why a test instead of interviews?
Because interviews tell us nothing. Someone can talk well and animate badly. The test shows us exactly what we need to know in about the same amount of time. You also get to see if you like animating in our style.
do I need to use specific animation software?
No. Use whatever makes you fast and effective.
how much do you pay?
It depends on the quality and complexity of the work. We don't post a flat rate because we'd rather pay well for great work than anchor to a number that undersells good animators. What we can tell you: it's bi-weekly, we agree on the rate before you start, and your rate goes up automatically as the channel grows.
can I work remote?
Yes, work wherever, whenever. Just hit your deadlines.
where are you located?
Nowhere. We are completely remote. We handle all communication, feedback, and decisions in a Discord server.
do you offer benefits?
No. We are a brand new studio of three people. If you need health insurance and a 401k right now, apply elsewhere.
how do I know this is a legit studio?
We're so new that "legit studio" is generous. We have a real website, a real YouTube channel in production, we freelanced a few artists and worked with animators. We're also publicly listed on ArtStation. I try to be as upfront as possible. If something feels off, walk away. I'm not here to steal 10 seconds of your animation.
